More and more people are choosing the working from home option these days but home is not always the best place to work. This means that people are looking for alternatives, even if it is just for an hour or two to break the routine of being at home continually. Cafes are often popular places to work – mainly because tea and coffee are readily available along with snacks and you don’t have to make them yourself!
Tips for working in a cafe
This is not just about what you need to take with you when you go to a cafe to work, but also what you should look for in a cafe.
The first thing is an internet connection. You may have a wi-fi dongle that means that it does not matter if the cafe has wi-fi, but if it does then that is better. However, you need to remember that you will be using a public network and you should take precautions when using it, such as opting for the services of a VPN.
Making sure you have a good battery life on your laptop is another must. Not all cafes will have an available power socket for you to plug in your charger. If your laptop only gives you an hour before it needs to be recharged then it is worth thinking about changing it for a model such as a refurbished macbook pro which will have a good battery life. A refurbished macbook pro is ideal if the funds available won’t stretch to a brand new laptop – you still get a good quality piece of equipment that will not let you down.
Check out the menu for the cafe in advance – if it is a place where you cannot get both a good breakfast and a lunch, then it may not be the best place to work. Remember that you will still need to purchase food and drink while you are there – they will not allow you to take up a table if you don’t intend to be a paying customer.
